Progress

The issue that I've chosen for this project is drug abuse issue among teenagers in Malaysia. After I did some research and combining all the previous lessons in Communication Theory class, I found that Wayang Kulit is the perfect malaysian visual cultural artform.

Rationale

An awareness in a form of light box is designed for installation. Using metaphor and understanding semiotics I made an artwork where drug abuse awareness can be related with wayang kulit. I chose wayang kulit because it is one of the platform where people share moral story traditionally. As I wanted to give a message about drug abuse, I thought that using wayang kulit as my chosen malaysian visual cultural art form. The wayang kulit can express either calm nature or even ambitious personality. I used sad expression to show how depressed the teenager is in the wayang kulit. This is also inspired of how I learned about body language and creating a posture which shows how the puppet gave up. The crafted holes on wayang kulit has a certain meaning for me which shows how empty a drug abuse victims’ soul. An awareness in a form of light box is designed for installation. Reflection

There are much things that I’ve learned which I could apply in the future and also design. I’ve  learned about how visual form could means a lot by understanding the form of it. Understanding how text and still images could create meanings even without any words or explanation. This helps me understand that people does sees things through signs. Examples are very crucial when it goes to brainstorming idea.

I’m using all the lessons that I’ve learned while on the trip to brickfields and central market, i see things and perceived. All  the symbols, index and icon pops out at every semiotics that I saw. This helps a lot when it goes to creating the final design for the project.

In the future there would be more researches that needs to be done. Thus the lessons that I’ve learned can be used in next lessons and learning situation.

It would be better if there are more explanations about projects and exercise thus I could understand more what I supposed to do.
